Are we suppose to pull codes? [Archive] - Toyota MR2 Message Board

This may go down in history as a really dumb question. But are we suppose to pull codes or is the CEL suppose to stay on to tell us if something is wrong that we need to to the paper clip trick?? This is my first OBD1 car and i have always thought that unless you see the CEL that is the only time you go jump to see if you get a code. I have never seen my CEL on. Except once on fuel cut or on start up then its gone. A buddy told me that sometimes the CEL wont come on and that i need to check
