I just got a 94 mr2 and for some reason I hear grinding when both upshifting and downshifting into 3rd. My boyfriend was behind me while picking it up and said the reverse lights came on when I shifted into 3rd. The person who sold it to me told me about the issue beforehand, and suggested going into 4th, which has been going okay. I would definitely like the comfort of going into 3rd. I
