so i went to an A/C class as part of my training for my job. i was told by my instructor that before cars had cabin air filters mold would build up in the passage ways from the outside entry where air would get in to the passenger cabin, where air would reach the passengers. moisture in a dark damp area is a dangerous mix thus they invented cabin air filters to trap the road dirt grime and moisture entering the vehicle. my mr2 for one dose not use the cabin air filter. 20 years of road grime
