Short Shifter

the car I purchased awhile ago came with an authentic B&M short shifter, but the problem is that its grinding against the shift cables... I can take a picture later but I am wondering if you guys might know what I mean by describing it.. can I remove the pin on the left side shift cable receiver and reverse it so that it connects to the left side of it instead of the right side so it can clear this shifter? or should I Just grind the shifter itself down so that it clears it better
