Friction Stir Welding In the May issue of Car and Driver there is an article about a “old” type of welding that has been used by mfg’s but hasn’t seemed to really catch on in widespread usage. Friction Stir Welding was invented in 1991. FSW doesn’t require heat. It uses pressure and friction only.
